The University of North Carolina system placed East Carolina University‘s interim chancellor on leave Monday after local news media published photographs and videos of him allegedly drinking at a bar with students, The News & Record of Greensboro reported.

Dan Gerlach, who has been chancellor since the university’s previous chancellor was forced out by the North Carolina system’s board chairman in May, was placed on leave pending an investigation by the system. East Carolina released a statement saying the photos show the chancellor engaging innocently with students and are being misconstrued.
